Q ki, Life Lambi he ni badi bhi honi chaiyae

these are the line from latest reliance finance company.

“because, life should not just be long, it should be big”.

Reliance has added “big” as its brand. Whether it it is big street, big cinemas, big flicks, big tv etc etc;  all its media and entertainment brand constitute of big. When I first thought about it; it seem to be so simple to me. In India big means better. Selling Big was so simplistically correct. Idiot proof !

Big though does not constitute quantity but it does appeal to mass. After all what democracy is all about. If you have big support, bigger than your opponent you win. Democracy make big necessarily right.

so making big a brand necessarily make it Reliance Right, isn’t it? It is not high on quality, but hey it is big. Isn’t it what reliance denotes, Power of scale!

however there could be a different view other than looking all this as a cheap marketing propaganda.

What if big really denotes the will power of human to achieve something which is impossible. What if it denotes not the gloomy present but the fantastic future where one wants to be.

What if, big denotes all the human greed, all the human endeavour that has made what we are.

What if, big denotes dhiru bhai ‘s vision of being number 1,2 or 3 in a given segment or to close the business.  What if Big was the word that drive Jack welsh to become the leader he is known today.

What if Big is a philosophy and not a instinct. I think, but then I never have think big myself.

Enough of being young feeling. Now you are old act like that and achieve like that. How about having some BHAG (Big Hairy and Audacious Goals)?

But I am not on aldarine any more. so let me set some Not so Big, Not so Hairy and Not so Audacious Goals first:

Micro Focus Buys Borland | JAVA Developer's Journal

Micro Focus Buys Borland JAVA Developer's Journal:
"After a 26-year run that saw it adopt multiple personalities in going from influential to non-entity, the tools house that once challenged Microsoft and Lotus is being acquired by Micro Focus for $75 million cash, a buck a share."

To bad! Another big old oak falled. Suprisingly unlike an oak, when an old withered company dies, nobody got to hear anything.... it definately dies silently.

I stopped following borland when they sold their compiler business under codegear initiative. Still i will give second look to news that covered Borland.

I happen to use borland way back in 90, with Turbo Pascal 3.0. It was great and fantastically easy tool to do everything. My love with Pascal remain till recent with Borland Delphi. Unfortunately while Microsoft went on to improve things(by using Borland technology and people, remember c# is created by the guy who created Turbo Pascal), Borland never able to survive.

Bye Bye Borland!

MTNL Launched 3g in India

So 3g is finally here! Most awaited most wanted and most elusive. MTNL launched 3g on its network in India today. Prime Minister Sri Manmohan ji will make a voice call today in an inauguration ceremony.

Today's newspaper has a whole page clipping on this most awaited event. However what was missing was details about it on MTNL website:

image

I will buy MTNL connection, to start with for voice call (then I would have to buy two sim, which is fine with me) and next for data. Since 3g in India will be probably HSPA +. I would see how speed of 2mbps + feels like.

I would like to know unlike world, will 3g be destructive technology in India? Indian are innovative when utilizing resource. I am sure to see something different out here.

SMS - Message Sending Process (Technical Realization)

The following describes the method of SMS Sending:

image

1. Message originate from mobile phone and similar device (known as MS)

2. The SMSC receive the message from MS and forward it to GSMC.

3. The SMS GMSC requests the routing information by sending the message MAP_SEND_ROUTINGINFO_FOR_SM to HLR (not shown). The message include the MSISDN (mobile Number) of the recipient MS.

4. The HRL retrieve the routing information and pass it to SMS GMSC. The information includes the IMSI and serving MSC address of recipient MS.

5. The GMSC delivers the message to MSC by sending the message MAP_FORWARD_SHORT_MESSAGE.

6. The MSC extract user information by query VLR.

7. MSC finally deliver the message using paging operation.

Short Message Service

SMS appeared on the wireless scene in 1991 in Europe, where digital wireless technology first took hold. The European standard for digital wireless, now known as the global standard for mobiles (GSM), included short messaging services from the outset.

The point-to-point SMS provides a mechanism for transmitting "short" messages to and from wireless handsets. The service makes use of a short message service center (SMSC) which acts as a store and forward system for short messages. The wireless network provides for the transport of short messages between the SMSCs and wireless handsets.

A distinguishing characteristic of the service is that an active mobile handset is able to receive or submit a short message at any time, independent of whether or not a voice or data call is in progress. SMS also guarantees delivery of the short message by the network. Temporary failures are identified, and the short message is stored in the network until the destination becomes available.

The Sinful Apple! - Part 2

Last time i wrote how operator are planning to sell a $200 iphone at $800 in India.

I have interesting update. According to business-week, everyone including Airtel, Hutch (operators) and Apple itself has denied any involvement in pricing iphone so ridiculously in India. Operators are blaming apple and apple in turn is blaming operators.

I guess May be not today, but someday in future there would be another debate - "Failure of apple Iphone in India". It is not difficult to see who will take blame for this.

On being 31

In next 1 hour, I will turn 31. In india were average age is way below 60, I think this is the time when you start counting in reverse.

When Yaksha asked Yudhistera "what is the greatest wonder of mankind?",  Yudhistera replied "the greatest wonder is off-course the way human lives; they know that one day they all have to die, however they live all their life as if they are immortal".

I am not unknown to human destiny, however I believe it is quality matter than quantity. I had believe that we all human are being sent on this mirtu-loka to achieve nirvana. The way toward it runs through various road, of which nir-vikara karma (or action without indulgence in result) is the most appropriate way.

Life is not what had passed by or what is remaining, it is what you are living now. You don't live in past or future, you live now.

It is a long journey and every day comes with new challenge, every day engulf you in new maya. To be part of it, while remembering that it is part of being mortal, will make me sane.

I have great want of achievement, it keeps me ticking. I wait for opportunity to grow, to be wiser to be better. You may call me self obsessed, but everyday I found myself in a class room where there are hundreds of teacher and the sole student as me.

Saw a Car today, INR 3.6 crore for it. estimated if I have to take loan to buy it, My instalments would be 5.4Lakh PM for next 6 years :)

What it take to be richer?

Window Live Writer

the new improved windows live write is way too cool!!!

I have previously used old version of Window live writer, but the implementation seem quite buggy. This is way too cool. I got connected to blogger website without hassle and picture embedding is so easy as shown below:

Smarter Spam

I got a card from care2.com. I thought it to be some person I would know, but finally this it what it came to be:

image

A spam mail by hacking (or cracking) a legitimate e card web-site. Now that is creative! I guess the only real solution for spam problem is setting up mail acceptance from know people.

The sinful Apple!

(Image copyright apple inc)

I have been waiting for somebody to actually say that!

I am surprised to hear what has been done by operator in India. When iphone was launched in Us (at $399), it was available (offcourse without warranty) at a cost of 18K in India.

Now when apple as actually got the cost down, It is now priced at 31K (around $800) in India.

I am not sure if somebody will actually buy this product, I will not! There are few good reason for that:
1. I am satisfied with my Sony-Erickson p1i.
2. 2 Megapix camera? I had that 2 year ago, not anymore!
3. A 3g phone without 3g network, doesn't excite me any more! I have been having a 3 g phone from last 4 year now, without 3g network offcourse.
4. I will have to send the mobile phone to apple to get its battery remove. Very funny.
5. Few of my friend who had iphone has complaint of network related issue. The phone will go offline without warning. That is as bad as it could get.
6. 36K for a item Valued 8K outside India with make me feel like an idiot.
7. It does not have flash which is basic requirement for night shot.

anyway I have my reasons, however if you feel nirvana lies in buying iphone. Please go ahead!!

The brave shall inherit the Earth

Everything in this world is meant for you. God has created the world for you thinking you as center of universe. You can achieve anything and everything you ever want.

The difference is only how you want. If you want something like that is the only goal of your life, If it become your passion, you will achieve it.

Future Software

The future desktop application shall run on browser. Does this sound confusing to you? Well to be true, it is not that confusing and as time has gone by, Microsoft has realized that it is not that impossible too. Down the line without DHTML and XMLHttp object it may not have that easy to realize. However talking about today’s world, ask a web programmer if he can update a certain part of web-pages with result of some remote transaction, he would be delight to do that.
What Borland called Ultra-thin client, What Microsoft said N-tier application and what we commonly know as AJAX, Asynchronous JavaScript and XML has finally arrived. Ajax enables a web page to be as dynamic as a desktop application. May be this is what Sun, Oracle and IBM, have meant when they talked about network computer almost decay ago. Long time back Bill Gates said that he made mistake when he thought internet shall never work, and to be true it was a big mistake IF you check its dollar value. This time Bill was fast to point out that “Live” is the key. In addition, he did talk about earth not being center of universe (actually, he said that Operating System is no more important, but that’s just one and the same thing).
Microsoft already has many live services like start.com, live.com and msn Live (which may come up with merger with AOL). These websites provides online service like virus scan, defragmenter, in fact most of windows tool through web. All of these are based on use of AJAX and web controls. Google already have its live website through Google personal. Yahoo who has never used active JavaScript on its website before, came up with beta version of yahoo mail, that uses Ajax to provide outlook like interface. Finally Microsoft have said, that it may give away ad-supported version of Microsoft software, including Windows free of cost!
Well future IT world is going to be pretty interesting.

Sony Troubled World

I have not written for quite a long time. The world does not stop and when you are talking about technology world, it specially likes to outdate itself.
This month started with Sony rootkit being detected by an a experienced window programmer Russinovich. Russinovich find out that Sony DRM (Digital Right Management, Copy Proctectio Technology) uses rootkit. Root kit which is usually used by virus writer to hide their code, is potentially unsafe and not uninstalling it properly may damage your Operating System altogether. Since then Sony have stopped using Root kit and recalled millions of CD. Now Microsoft has updated its Anti-spyware to remove Sony root kit. What most security Experts have thoughts, there have already been attempt to exploit machine running Sony rootkit.

How to Kill a Killer App

Well very simple! Get the code of killer application, find out what can be added to improve it, improve it and yes release it!
You do not believe me? Well probably you have not known open source world that much then.  This is how open source community works!

A lesser-known company based in California has come up with a new killer browser based called “Flock” based on Mozilla Firefox. The browser have advance feature like online “Favorite” bookmarks, instant access to RSS feed and many other features commonly called at Web 2.0.

The browser has already put some tension to Mozilla community who thinks that the browser is aimed at making Firefox obsolete.

Anyway, time would have to tell us more about that in future. Meanwhile I have noticed few things about this browser. The default search engine is yahoo and in multiple accounts, the flock.com talks about yahoo only. We should not forget about the recent treaty between Microsoft and Yahoo on Instant Messaging. The action was definitely to stop Google getting big into Instant messaging (Google release Google Talk recently). I have always seen how beautifully Firefox and Google gel, wondering Flock have some funding from Yahoo!
Download it here for windows.

How Long is Long?

If you are young like me, you may not be getting time to think about ten year from now. If you are really smart may be you have made some long-term investments. Moreover, if you are really-really smart you have already planned or invested for your pension policy.
I guess, that is the common human definition of long time. The question is how long is actually long?

The 5000 years of human intelligent advancement is nothing on galactic scale. However, for people like you, and me 40 years is a long time.
There are people who think more than that. Yes! If you have to believe noted visionary, and owner of “Think Machine” once world best super computing device creator, Danny Hillis, we should plan for at least 10,000 years!

Danny Hillis, who hold over 40 patents on various software and mechanical devices, is working on to create world slowest clock. The clock that shall tick once in year, bang once in 100 years and cuckoo once in a millennium shall show time accurately for 10,000 years.

The clock does not require any external energy, does digital calculation using mechanical parts. The project, which is maintained by http://longnow.org, has already created two prototypes and is planning to create a 60-foot tall clocked that shall be homed in Nevada’s deserts for next 10,000 years.

We will not live to see the days, but it is sure that this clock shall become a relic of past some day.

Already started thinking long time? Click here to see what people think about coming future. By the way, you can bet here on future!

What is http://www.symbolics.com?

Does this name ring a bell? I guess not! Well what is “symbolics” anyway, and what do they do? They are not Microsoft or IBM, and since you have clicked the URL, their website looks pretty mess.

Its description says it an old company selling special computer based on Lisp software. Interestingly what you are missing is symbolics.com is the world OLDEST website ever registered.

Interesting if you click here you shall see that Microsoft is not even in first 100. This is a very good example of Bill Gates commitment toward internet phenomena in those days.

Evolution of Computer Technology

A long time back when a deadly virus entered the mobile world, that can replicate itself through PAN (Bluetooth Network), I was excited to know about it.
Virus that lived in computer world has now entered mobile world and was using a very different network to replicate itself. That was an evolution of computer technology.

In a bizarre incident, which was not even predicted by Blizzard itself, a virtual epidemics infected the virtual world of WoW (World of Warcarft) and killed many player who were under 20 level. The curse (read virus) infected any person that visits or go nearby a infected person. Interestingly the curse traveled from one place to another not only by human but also by pets. Blizzard later marked it as a bug and did specific action to remove the epidemics. However what we see here is not a bug, but a real life replication of what we called as human epidemics.
WoW which is one of the most successful online game in US history, and the gameplay has been made remarkably real life with a great storyline. I think what we see here is evolution of computer technology to next stage of realism.

MySQL 5.0 Ready for Enterprise Computing

MySQL database system has evolved. The new version 5.0 has now features that match the functionality provided by any serious database system.
Stored procedure and trigger, and transactions atomicity has now become standard offering of the cheapest (cost $0.00) yet most popular open source database system.
MySQL is now eyeing upon XML support which is recommendation of  SQL 2003 standard.
Looks like MySQL is sure going to heat up the enterprise level database market.

Linux Not Ready Yet
Open-source may seem like a smart choice, still I do not understand, when it is going to be made for Users.

I am not Linux dud, and yes you can call me as Linux dude. However surprisingly I have downloaded Fedora Core 4 two times and I still am unable to make it run. Somebody tell me why every time the setup needs to stop at 1% citing bad CRC. If the ISO image was not right, why somebody have to actually place it up on the net!
Looks like Linux have lots to grow up before it can actually be called as User Friendly, and yes I am not first to say this too.

Sunday, September 18

Microsoft has first time released a version of its product with open-source library specification in it.
The product is Complete Cluster Edition of Windows 2003 Server. Microsoft has previously released various products under open source license at http://www.sourceforge.net.

I once saw a cartoon in which BSD daemon was killing a Linux penguin. If Microsoft is smart, it can definitely use non-GPL source in its products or may be learn from it. This shall definitely help it to gain competitive edge.

I think Linux communities also do think BSD, Apache License, and other non-issue open source license are big trouble for Linux world.

Aggregation: the act of gathering something together

Google released blog search today. So all you guys, who were placing their thought @ http://www.blogger.com, and never noticed that the service belong to Google, check it out now.
Heard about Orkut, it is the number one social groups among hi5, gazzak and others. Well it also belongs to Google. Google have now attached orkut to single-sign-on using gmail ID.

Not to maintain the new cool software, “BloggerForWordSetup”. The application that can help you to directly publish blog from Microsoft Word! A boon to people like me who make too many spelling mistakes while typing.

And by the way, have you heard about Google earth from Microsoft? Well it is called MSN Virtual Earth!

Get Ready for a New Interface

Looks like, new version of office is going to cause more sleepless nights for developer community. Microsoft strategically uses Office suite for pushing new interface and new features that are slanted for its up-coming operating system.
The new version of MS Office is no different. To be released by the end of 2006, MS Office 12 is going to have all new interfaces with standard Menu completely out of screen (checkout the upper left corner).
One thing is sure, Microsoft do have some creative people working with user interface engineers.

Speak No Evil

In a significant judement a Washington state judge has ruled Kai-Fu Lee can continue to work for a Google development center in China, however without speech.
The judge Steven Gonzalez ruled that Lee may work for Google, however, his role shall be limited to hiring college student and providing non-technical insight on how Google can expand its business in China. Lee however cannot provide technical knowledge on expanding business in China, or working on technologies like Speech and Search, the domain in which Lee has expertise.

"For $10 million, (Lee) can interview students and be a leasing agent," said Microsoft counsel, and that definitely make Lee as the highest paid HR Manager!

SCO is History

The tall claim made by SCO has not worked after all. The total earning from SCO source claim has been $32K and the Legal Bill a whooping $3 million.
SCO has claimed that Linux uses SCO patent code and technology and hence anybody using Linux must pay SCO license fee. Under this license program, SCO has been offering a license to companies that use Linux, saying that it will protect them from action by its legal department. The cost of legal bill came from from SCO's ongoing court cases against IBM and Novell, for using its IPR unlawfully in Linux.

IT and Disaster Management

The power of communication is vast. Though it seem small, the changes that has been brought by IT technology to way we communicate is huge and its impact profounded.
You may not agree to me, but frankly I believe after inventation of the wheel, IT technologies have revolutionize human world more than anything else.
The technology has impacted every bit of human life. Best example has been the world famous blog by a Data Center Manager, in New Orlean, US.
Orlean which faced the US worst calamity in current time, due to Hurricane name Catarina, was cut off from rest of US for over a week.
However "Interdictor", who was maintaining a data center, provided live clip, streaming video, IM and Blog on the catastrope live from center of distruction. For entire devastation period his blog has been the only real source of information on New Orleans devastation.

Interdictor is now a online celebrity, and has proved technology could be more useful than just being a geek's gadget.

Googly from Google

Google is expanding in all directions and its ambitions are huge.
New version of Desktop search provide new feature including side bar for quick access to resources.
Not only that google has come up with Google Talk, a new service that is is a IM.
Well warning bells for Microsoft and Yahoo!

Google has arrived and there is nothing un-offical about it. I wonder How shall the opensource world who have so fondness for Google and so much hatred for Microsoft, react when Google become next Microsoft.

Point to be noted google is in business of making money by reading you personal emails.

Efficiency is the key

Two researcher at University of Florida has found out a new compound that can squeeze out 20 % more water from fabrics hence saving on electricity bill for washing machine.
The immediate tomorrow world shall be derived by creativity until the time we do not see revolution in technology for bringing in advance changes.
As I guess there is a big scope of improvement too. Our device are still a lot energy inefficient.

In a interesting story, slashdot reported that Linux running Wine is actually a genuine copy of Windows!
Well if you do not believe me, believe Microsoft. Linux running Wine (Windows Emulator) successfully passed WGA (Window Genuine Advantage) test. A linux user named ‘zidane tried to download DirectX which led to execution of WGA applet.
The applet verified Wine as genuine windows.

No More Freebees

In a sudden move Microsoft have now stopped providing updates to windows XP (SP2) machine that are running pirated windows.

This has come pretty unannounced, though Microsoft have such policy for China and Microsoft was thinking in this line for long time.
Is it done only for India or world over, only future can tell.

How it shall effect the growth of window is yet to be known. The biggest reason of Microsoft growth is also the one which Microsoft is trying to stop: Piracy.

Now Opensource Beer!

A group of creative students from IT University of Copenhagen called Vores Øl has come up with unique way of making sure the beer is always free.

The recipe and brand of their beer is published under a Creative Commons license, which means anybody can brew this beer without ever paying a penny to anybody.

May be Free software foundation has to change there defination of "Free":
"Free software" is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of "free'' as in "free speech", not as in "free beer."

Killing you softly -- Firefox

I am now so tired of Firefox. It is really unbelievable but true. Check this screenshot, I have one Firfox window opened with NO tab. The content is cnet news page.
Memory usage of Firefox is above 63MB and CPU usage is around 30%. Never seen this kind of issue with Internet explorer.
OS/2Wrapped

I am sorry to announce the peaceful death of 20-year-old OS/2 Wrap Operating System.
It was a fairly advance Operating system with GUI, pre-emptive multi-tasking in the days of windows 3.0
Bullied by its younger brother Windows, OS/2 wrap keep on losing market share, and today only few installation actually exists.
IBM has announced standard support for both OS2 and OS2 Wrap shall end by December 31, 2006. IBM have suggest the migration path to Linux (please note that OS2 binaries are compatible with Win32).
With OS2 wrapping up, and Sun Solaris becoming opensource, the war is now clearly between Microsoft Windows and Opensource.
Hydrogen Fuel: Today’s Fiction tomorrow’s truth.

There couldn't be anything cleaner as fuel than Hydrogen. The simple reason being when it burns, water, the essence of all living species is produced.
However, hydrogen production is a huge problem, not to forget the high flammability, which makes up almost impossible to carry.

A small startup called Signa Chemistry has come up with new method of producing hydrogen, which is safe as well as affordable.
This may seem like too much optimism; however, this can have a huge impact on human evolution. As we know, fuel is the driving force of economy. Moreover, until the time having fusion reaction at room temperature is not possible, I think this alternate way of creating hydrogen can be extremely useful.

The slash dot reports from blog of Sunbelt software, developer of anti-spyware software; that microsoft have changed the threat level of Claria gain from "remove" to "ignore".

Claria Gain is an adware and there is no question about it. If these reports are true, there are big implications on Microsoft credibility.

What is Technology For?

Finally we have a robot that can not just kill, but kill like a sniper. This robot can move in any terrain and is remotely controlled.
Photos: Gun-toting bots

I remember a verse from my school time Hindi book:

Manav, Agar vigyan hain talwar;
to faek they e'say door smriti kay paar.

(Mankind, if science and technology is no more than a weapon; then it is better to throw it away from the reach of thought and intelligence.)

We shouldn't forget the irony that much of the technological advancement has come through wars. It is the adversity that make human do wonder, and war is the mother of all adversity.

Google requires its employee to devote one man day each week on their pet projects. It is very interesting as Google believe that its new and smart product mostly comes through employees only.
It is a paradigm shift from the old idea of having a dedicated R&D to using distributed brains each constituting to company think-tank in different and unique way.

Just wondering; we know the time has came for distributed computing; wondering if the time has also came for distributed thinking?

Software development is an interesting work; and so are the people who are into it.
All the day they work unbelievable hours to write some code, and needless to say, the only happiness they get is from seeing this code work. Their good part of life revolves around code that work sometime and sometime do not.
It is not uncommon for developer to develop a personal relationship with a piece of software. They reflect their happiness as well as sorrows through the comments they place in the code.

It is interesting to see Solaris implementation seem cleaner as compared to Linux Kernel or Microsoft Windows Kernel.
No, No I am not talking about the superiority of code, but code with lesser number of abuse and R rated content.
Check this out which details OpenSolaris code.

Comparing this to Microsoft (go to heading Microsoft), you shall be surprise to see that the level of Windows Developer's frustration.

But developer are developers and coding is not always fun.

Microsoft offers tabbed browsing--in IE 6 | CNET News.com

Great News! and really bad news for firefox.

Windows XP Sp2 and this tab browsing feature of IE together is far superior than Firefox.
Not that it much better, but it is equally better. Firefox have silly problem of eating up whole of RAM when system wakes up from a hibernation. I am mobile user and Hibernation is the feature which effects my browser decision.

I think I am going back to Internet explorer.

The Mallika of Hearts

Look what times magazine have say about sexy shrine from Bollywood, Miss Malika Sherawat.

"He (Jackie Chan) was escorting the co-star of his new film The Myth, Bollywood sex Goddess Mallika Sherawat a young woman so gorgeous, curvaceous and genial, and so open in her ambition to be the next big thing, that she surely will be. Striding down he coisette, making the paparazzi pop their bulbs, Sherawat summoned old-timers' memories of a festival 50 years ago, when the beach first sold the world on the notion of the Riviera resort as the home for unbuttoned movie glamour. The movies may have grown more dour, but the stars still make it smile. As Cannes was, so Cannes is."

Speech of Pepsico India President at Columbia University

Indira Nooyi, president/CFO of Pepsico, raised a huge controversy by her speech at Columbia University. Her comment was about how American conduct there business and there so called "middle finger" attitude toward world.

It is not surprising to see that Americans do perceive "United States" as world. There internal contest which are basically to choose on of the American usually ends with ".. of the world".
For them the world does not exist, if it exists, it is so silly and ignorant that it can be ignored easily.

Though too hard and too crude, Indira do made some well targeted points.

Technology U.S. scientists create self-replicating robot

World should start seriously thinking about Bill Joy words on future, why world don't need us

Two technologies as said by Bill Joy shall together make the starting of human extinction:
1. Self replicating technology on non-biolife form
2. Artificial Intelligence

With Self replicating technology already in place and Moore's law does not seems to fail, in another 30-40 years this would be truth!

Beware Mankind!

Photos: Robots mount up for camel races - page 2 | CNET News.com

Fantastic! is'nt it? Camel races, in which young children were used as jockey was criticized all over the world due to the danger involve in it. Now the camel races which is part of age old civilization gonna use robots in the place of humans.

Remind me of a episode of Star trek voyager, in which certain species that kills other alien species as bounty were provided holodeck technology by voyager crew as a replacement for real humanoid. They enjoyed it for long however at the end, the holodeck characters become hunter.

MIT makes plastic that changes shape in light | CNET News.com

Thats pretty cool. I mean think of all the applications! your sofa shall convert into your safe-locker as soon as you put specially designed ultra-violet light!!
Well may be not, but isn't it pretty near to that!

I believe this shall have profound implication on security and secure devices.
We all have heard about sofa set that converts to bed; how about a sofa that shall change into dining table, chairs or may be into your mother in law, if you need some nagging! :)

At home. At my home,
Bought a house few day back on a big amount of mortgage. But still I am okay with what I have got.
Anyway how did it pay to be true? How much it pay to be all transparent?

I will have to see. I think no matter what you get or loose, Life is all about accepting what you are and what you are not.

Today was like a day of acceptance. Acceptance of what I am what I have been.
Its right to be right today and be sorry (if that's what is in fate) now than it is to be wrong today and apologize whole life.

Fantastic, Today I have setup wireless network at my home. Pretty good. I guess my home may be one of the few in New Delhi to have a hot spot with 512KBPS network available round the clock.
So everybody and anybody living around Chittranjan Park, for limited period, you can access internet connection through my hotspot, free, if you have wireless network card or Inel Centrino Processor in your laptop.
I am not sure how far the reach, however around Savitri Cinema, you should be able to access my network.

Enjoy!
It has been really long time. Welcome New Year 2005. Life is being so hectic and I being so in-active, couldn't write anything. However at last i took some courage and here I am.
Last week of December was technically very interesting. Viruses has evolved and so it the technology. The most notorious of all Skull virus, is capable of spreading through PAN or Private Area Network. This is evolution of human technology. Today we see virus transferring from so called tech network to new kind of network with new kind of device. Life and technology is going to be interested in coming time.

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Things going fine. Google have been very nice to me all the time. I got my gmail invitation from google, and now i have got invitation to invite 6 more people to use gmail and all from google itself.
Thanks google.

However what i am going to write now shall not make google very happy.
I have recently installed google desktop search beta version.
When I first installed it, I felt over whelmed and excited. There is one tool, by which you can, not only search documents but also mails and presentations. No more messy outlook search, window XP horrible search; just type the keyword and hey, you got your document.
It didn't take me a long to realize the potential security risk. Anybody can come across to my computer, make a simple "password x-service" search and can access all my documents that may contain password!!!
Not only that, on shared machine people can just logon with there name and can read documents as well as emails of other person without any problem!
The other issue is Google shall show context sensitive advertisements (like in google.com). The implication, my machine content transferred over web to get a contextual advertisement for me.
The major issue shall come with some unknown window flaw. A new virus may be designed to search all emails/password from local hard disk if Google desktop bar is installed and send it to spammer/cracker.
I think this product have great features, however security concern are definitely too high. To add to this, google has been calling these risk as features!!!
CTO and CIO should see this as a potential risk to security of system.
